AAP, Autism, and Vaccine Safety

by

syringe.jpgThe AAP, the American Academy of Pediatrics, has released a statement (finally) on the recent government court case involving autism and vaccines.

Even though study after study conclude that there is no link between vaccines and autism parents still believe media hype and that mercury and thimerosal can cause autism.

The official statement:

The AAP understands that parents may have concerns about vaccinating their children. Vaccines are one of the most successful medical advances of all time. Vaccine safety is an issue of great importance to the AAP and to pediatricians, who support ongoing research and increased funding in this area. In addition, the AAP supports further research into the causes of autism.

They have also included information on mitochondrial disease, vaccine safety, the importance of vaccines, and detailed information on autism.

It is certainly a knee-jerk reaction to the media hype but also necessarily in educating parents on what the real issues in the court case are; mitochondrial disease, not organic autism. Many parents seem to have missed the fact that the courts have dismissed the fact that the vaccines actually CAUSED autism (they caused autistic symptoms).

The public knows that the vaccine/autism debate is one of the most controversial debates of the century and that it will likely go on for decades but the vast majority of the public still continues to listen to what the media reports.

Perhaps we need to look into more vaccine safety and not into filing claims against the government.

Perhaps we need to get out of the courts and into research labs and FIX the vaccines so they are SAFE for our children to take.

Perhaps we need to find a schedule for taking vaccines that is safe for ALL of our children to take, that insures that children with methylation problems and mitochondrial diseases can still enjoy healthy lives.

And perhaps instead of suing the government we need to put that money to better use and put it towards research?
