To say there is a correlation between the vaccine and autism because of the rise in cases since its introduction is grossly misleading. Did you know that when ice cream sales increase, there is a corresponding rise in shark attacks.

I think that it so easy for people to say things like she should advocate for this or that, but when you have a child with any kind of disability and one that comes along with behavior problems your first and only priority is to help your child and i believe that, that is what Holly Robinson-Peete and Jenny McCathey has done, first take care of your own and then you can reach out. So people especially people who do not have kids or who do not have kids with disablities should just keep their opinons to themselves.

I found this article both sad and somewhat discouraging. I am a Special Education teacher and I have taught students with exceptionalities in two states. I currently have only one student on the ASD on my caseload but have worked with many over the years. I absolutely agree that those in the service sector should receive some introductory training to assist in understanding not just people with exceptionalities but skills in de-escalation and conflict management. Of course, we would all agree that the flight attendant should never have touched the boy and the parent should have informed the flight attendant of this at the beginning of the confrontation. However, I must respectfully disagree with the author of this article on one key issue. I firmly believe that your child, and many others, have severe to profound difficulty understanding, accepting and conforming to societal rules and conventions. However, to say that someone cannot do this is beyond me. I have no doubt that experience has shown you to be correct in your assumption but as an educator there is an expectation that I will provide a high quality of education for all students who walk through my door. I cannot tell my boss that some of my students simply do not possess the ability to 'get it.' I have to continue to try to find news ways of instructing them and I encourage you to do the same. I respectfully believe you might be surprised to find that your child is more capable than you realize...

I read about this type of vest a few years ago when I was doing some research on a weighted vest for my child. I found the bookmark, incredibly. There was a product made called a Hug Over A Distance made by Florian Muller, which seems to work the exact same way with air filled pockets. I steered away from it because I wasn't sure the air pockets couldn't be punctured or burst if he were to squeeze them. That and there was also a noise problem when the air filled up which he wouldn't have gone for.

WOW - how frustrating this is. My son has just been diagnosed on the spectrum and for the past 18 months at school has gone through the same problem particularly with 1 kid and still is - how do we help them????? Even the teachers and principal haven't helped. He is seen as the bully as they only hear and see him return what he has copped!! ARGH!!!!!

While our son was never a big fan of a weighted or pressure vest, he definitely has benefited from a weighted blanket. He uses it mostly to help him sleep but it has also come in handy to help calm him down when it seems nothing else works.
Ours came from a place called DreamCatcher Weighted Blankets and was custom made especially for him. It took a little time to get it but was well worth the wait for the high quality and made to fit product we received. It is great that places like Theraputic Systems is doing some studies to try and figuire out why these products work but whatever the why is, I know they do work and am happy my son is feeling better because of them, no matter why.
