Jenny McCarthy in the Top Ten?
Chicago born and bred Jenny McCarthy has earned another notch on her bedpost; one that could solidify her as an autism guru if one believes in all of her fluff. Okay, can you tell that I am no longer a supporter of her bunny hoppin’ charities, her gluten free diet solutions, and her candida theories?
Sure, all of those things (in my opinion) work and are great but the way she has gone about publicizing the autism cause makes me wonder if she even knows what she is talking about.
The Chicago Sun Times has honored her with a spot in their “The Ten Women Who Inspired Us in ‘07″ by stating that her book “louder than words” was honest, informative, down to earth, and hard to read. But the more informed parents who really deal with autism everyday (how much time do you really spend with your son, Jenny?) found your book fluffy.
I could not bring myself to buy it…to spend the $20 on something that I knew was going to have the same information as Google. Interestingly, Kristina over at Autism Vox has actually cited some errors in the “informative” text in her post: “That Was Then, This is Now…”
As far as a top ten list goes how about these women?
Americas North Shore Journal has a list of their Top Ten Women. They certainly fight the fight.
I Speak of Dreams who actually inserts Kristina for being the voice of Autism.
I think we all need to take note of who is really worthy of being inspirational and who is simply producing hype. Listen carefully to messages and information thrust at you from the media and do your own research too. I know it is hard to filter everything out but sometimes one just has to.
