Mysteries in Numbers…autism cases grow
Autism is quickly becoming the fastest growing developmental disorders worldwide.
Autism Spectrum Disorder, according to David Ducharme at Northern Life.ca, “is now the umbrella idiom for the group of neurological disorders to which children are born predisposed.”
And, I have to agree. Autism affects all children in different manners, as does brain damage, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, heavy metal toxins, allergies, etc. Do all children fall on the Spectrum or are there different labels we should be giving them?
I know that over half of the children I have ever met with autism are not “classically” autistic. But, nonetheless, they are labeled as having autism because they fall somewhere on the spectrum. Do they have autism, Aspergers, PDD, Retts, ADHD, Sensory Issues?/// The Doctors of Martin L. Kutscher, MD, PLLC at the Pediatric Neurological Associates state that unless we know all of the possible syndromes and their specific idiosyncrasies we will continue to label everyone the same and treat everyone the same, thus doing no one justice. We will oversimplify treatment.
But, are we labeling too many kids with the wrong thing? Why is there such an increase in Autism diagnoses? Is it because of science like I posted yesterday or is it because doctors don’t understand or know where kids fit?
