No Mama, I won’t do that!

It’s all I hear from Little Pickel these day. That, and friendly chatter about school, which I am more than happy to hear. But the No is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Would you like to go to the library? No
Please go potty before we leave. No
Come eat dinner. No
Get off the dog. No (another issue we are dealing with…)
Do not hit me. No
Little Pickel? No, followed by screams because he does not want to answer me…and all I want is to know where he is. At least I have my answer.

My parents tell me to ignore it but at times it is a safety issue. Yesterday I was changing the laundry and I heard the door slam. (Yes, we still have to put the locks on the doors.) I called his name and the response was No followed by screams. Well, obviously I found out where he was but he did not answer me.

He is becoming more and more strong willed, and obviously wanting to be independent. I am all for that but I also want him to be safe.

Any suggestions?
