Dover Speaks…
I mentioned last week that Autism Speaks, Visa, and Nascar have teamed up to promote awareness and raise funds for autism.
From now until June 1, Dover International Speedway will donate $5 to Autism Speaks from each ticket purchased with a Visa card for the June 3 “Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa” race. Fans can visit www.autismspeaks.org to learn more and donate to this worthwhile cause.
As part of the entitlement, a special one-of-a-kind experience will be auctioned, with all proceeds going directly to Autism Speaks. The prize includes the opportunity to wave the green flag as the honorary starter for the June 3 race; an autographed flag signed by the starting lineup of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race; the chance to be on stage for driver introductions; a ride in the pre-race parade lap for four guests; four tickets to watch the race from a skybox suite; four pit passes; and a guided tour for four of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup garage. To participate in this unique auction and support Autism Speaks, go to www.autismspeaks.org/dover400.
Two drivers standout: Ricky Rudd and Jamie McMurray
Hoping to continue his winning streak, Snickers driver Ricky Rudd will head to Dover International Speedway for the Autism Speaks 400 Presented by Visa.
Last weekend he had the best finish of his season at the Coca-Cola 600 and he is looking forward to the Dover race.
“I’m actually looking forward to see the car at Dover this weekend. I feel that the car (The Car of Tomorrow) is going to sit well out on the track since it’s not so bumpy of a track.”

But, even more impressive is Jamie McMurray and the message he “speaks” to everyone about autism. Not only is he driving this coming weekend (he led last years Dover race for 95 of the 98 laps), but he is also auctioning his suit and helmet after the race. Because his 9-year-old niece has autism and the disorder is dear to his heart, he has also started his own Jamie McMurray Foundation which will work with the Autism Society of America. He will be racing with a special paint scheme on his car on June 3. In previous years, McMurray has supported various autistic programs such as the “Drive for the Cure” initiative and the “Driving Autism Awareness” campaign.
