So What Would You DO?
AJ is giving me a run for my money lately…not that I am complaining. I am actually a little proud. Why? Because he is acting like a NORMAL four year old.

Here is what has me perplexed.
The hitting and kicking are virtually gone, the screaming gone, the whining gone, the begging gone, the badgering gone. Whew…he sounds like a real pain!
Now he is looking me right in the face and doing the opposite of what I ask of him. He is destroying all his cool toys. He is eating things like toothpaste and kitty treats (and then promptly regretting it). And he is not wanting to go anywhere, ever. I even asked him if he wanted to go swimming, go jump on the trampoline, go to McDonalds (and what kid doesn’t want to?) and you know what he said?
No, stay home, please?
I’m baffled.
Is his yeast treatment finally working? Is he not feeling well (he does have a cough)? Is the new schedule so GOOD for him that it makes that much of a difference? (We moved him to afternoon Early Childhood and I keep his mornings completely calm.)
Here is my one problem: He is not listening to me and is pretty adamant about it…wanting to be in charge of everything. I am trying to give him choices for things instead of telling him what to do (ie: you can go upstairs to bed now or you can have a snack and then go to bed). The problem is that he does not understand some of the choices so I am also going to be implementing the Board Maker that I talked about this week (so that he can visually see the choices).
How do I get him to listen? Obviously “normal” kids have trouble with this at his age but how do I get a special needs kid to understand that it is NOT a good idea to eat toothpaste and kitty food or to eat the wheels from his cars?
